Week 6 Topic: Erasing Markers of Difference

In this presentation our group is focusing to analysis on the reading of Hong Kong Cyberculture: A Case Study by Amy Lai Tak-yee. The discrimination in cyberculture is the main issues that had been discussed in this reading. As she pointed out the cyberspace is a place which provide freedom and no restraint for people, but this also create the phenomenon of discrimination through this cyberculture.
Actually, the discrimination is divide as few parts to discuss about such as, class discrimination, racism, gender discrimination and homophobia in the cyberculture. And, this kind of issues can be actual happening in the cyberspace instead of the real world only.
Besides, the hyperreality and simulacrum can also be found in the cyberculture. Even it can not see the real body of the person in the cyberspace, it still involve the self-experience to communication with the other. So, it leads to difference identity will appear during the online or offline situation. There is no doubt that the discrimination is appearing in the cyberculture. And our group will use some local examples to elaborate more detail about discrimination of cyberculture in the coming presentation.
